Navigating Trauma, Movement, and Body Freedom with Alisa Keeton

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wished the reflection looking back at you felt like a friend instead of an adversary?

That question became a turning point for me. It also led to a fascinating conversation with Alisa Keeton, fitness leader and author of The Body Revelation. Alisa carries a powerful mission: helping people change the way they see their bodies. Instead of viewing the body as a problem to fix, she invites us to see it as an ally.

During our conversation, Alisa explains how trauma can live in the body. Trauma often shows up as an energetic or chemical charge that the nervous system continues to carry. As a result, the body may stay on high alert long after the original experience has passed.

Interestingly, children often experience trauma differently. Because their nervous systems are highly active at birth, they can feel and process experiences in intense ways. Over time, these early experiences may shape how the body responds to stress.

At the same time, our fast-paced modern world doesn’t always help. Constant pressure, stimulation, and distraction can keep our nervous systems activated. As a result, chronic stress becomes an unwelcome guest that stays far longer than it should.

However, Alisa reminds us of something important: our bodies are not simply vessels we carry around. Instead, they reflect our beliefs and how we experience the world.

Throughout the episode, we also explore how the mind and brain interact. Alisa shares insights about consciousness, belief, and how our internal stories influence the way we move through life.

If you’ve ever struggled with how you see your body, this conversation offers a refreshing perspective. Ultimately, this episode invites you to develop a more compassionate relationship with your body while understanding how trauma, stress, and belief all shape that experience.
