If you are struggling with disappointment and devastation, this episode is for you. It’s easy to get stuck in the blame or shame game when things don’t go as planned. As a result, disappointment can sometimes turn into despair.
Today’s guests, Fox and Rob Richardson, are no strangers to devastation and setbacks.
Fox and Rob Richardson, subjects of the Academy Award-nominated documentary TIME, remained committed to their marriage despite being separated for 21 years. In his twenties, Rob was working to get his business off the ground. However, every bank he approached turned him down for a loan.
In desperation, Rob attempted to rob a bank so he could provide for his growing family. He received a 61-year prison sentence despite having no prior convictions. Meanwhile, Fox raised their sons and continued fighting for her husband’s freedom.
Rob ultimately served more than two decades in Angola prison before receiving clemency in 2018. Since then, Fox and Rob have devoted much of their time to advocating for incarcerated individuals and their families. Together, they hope to change lives and laws through love.
In this episode, we discuss:
- Ways to cultivate perseverance and tenacity
- How your circumstances don’t define you
- The power of your words
- Practical steps for moving forward when you feel stuck
Ultimately, this conversation is about resilience, hope, and continuing to move forward even when life looks nothing like you expected.
